CONVERSION OF A REDUNDANT FARM COMPLEX INTO OFFICES

Furzeleigh Farm is part of the Buckfast Abbey estate. This listed complex of medieval house and 18th century barns, grouped around a traditional Dartmoor farm courtyard, is an unusual survival of an intact group of traditional farm buildings from the late mediaeval to the 19th century.

The barns have long been disused as they no longer have any valid agricultural use. The house is in need of major repair and renewal of fabric. The existing building fabric is to be extensively repaired and the structure strengthened to suit present day standards. New high efficiency low energy heating, electrical and plumbing services will be installed.

The house will once more have a thatch roof and the barn roofs will be slated. Nesting birds and several species of bat use the site and the rebuilt roof spaces have been designed to accommodate them
